The Sex-Positive Journalism Awards (the "Sexies") recognize those writers who stick to high journalistic standards in a climate of repression and misinformation around human sexuality.
What's new: A few photos from the Oct. 4 awards ceremony; more coming soon. Submissions are open for the 2009 awards (articles published in 2008). Don't put it off and forget! Check out 2008's winners for inspiration. You can always check our blogs on LiveJournal or Myspace for the latest.
We're seeking writers who present accurate information about sexual health and sexual diversity, who resist the assumption that sex-negative religious minorities represent the rest of the country's values, and who give news events involving sexual subcultures enough context and background that their readers can get the whole picture. The Sexies differ from most journalism awards in that readers can also submit articles. Have you read something that you felt was a breath of fresh air? Submit it. Then join our mailing list to be kept up to date, and help us make the awards happen, by donating.
